Another is when he realized the small boundary between the hunter and the hunted, and the need to stay focused and not let himself be caught. A couple of times, he had to tell himself "I will not lose my nerve. I will not."

And the external conflicts are when he had to brace the forces of the forest and swimming the rough waters to get back to the General's castle. And he also had to evade the hounds seeking him out.
