The Monroe Doctrine was the United States' foreign policy during the times of President James Monroe. President Monroe addressed Congress in 1823 and he referred to this concept for the first time, to send a clear message to the European nations of refraining to intervene in the affairs of America, including Latin America. This doctrine spread worldwide, sending the message that if a nation tried to intervene in a Latin American issue, it would be taken as direct aggression to the United States.

2. Convention of 1818- Migratory.

Great Britain and the United States signed a treaty called the Convention of 1818 to set the boundary between British America and teh West territory of the United States. The boundary was the 49th parallel of latitude. This served to delineate a natural frontier to control immigration.
