How did the weather contribute to George Washington's defeat at Fort Necessity?

Heavy rain allowed some 800 French and Native American fighters to surround Fort Necessity and fire at Washington's troops from the woods, who believed they would be inside the Fort and formed their ranks in regards to that thought.
