Mesoamerica is a historic cultural region that stretches from southern Mexico to Costa Rica, throughout Central America. It was in this region that the main pre-Columbian American civilizations, such as the Aztecs, Mayans and Olmecs, settled.

Given the physical characteristics of the region, especially its tropical climate and lush jungle areas, corn had become the main plantation of the natives of the area, and therefore their main source of food.

The cultures of Mesoamerica had many common features. During different time periods and in different places, the same gods were worshiped. Human sacrifices and ritual ball games were typical cultural traits that appeared in many places.
