The Cherokees had two governmental units. One was used for peacetime affairs and one for times of war. The white society also relied on its government units in order to handle different issues. The Cherokees lived in clans like how the white society lived in family units. The difference arose in who was in charge of the family structure. In white society, this was the man. In the Cherokee society, women had more power.
