During the Napoleonic Wars, there was a conflict between the Ottomans and the British Empire. The war lasted from 1807. to 1809 and it occurred when Napoleon aided the Ottoman empire which declared war on Russia. Britain declared war on France, and with it, went against the Ottomans as well. The conflict ended with the Turkish victory and treaty of Dardanelles.

The British army was also fighting against the Turkish military on several fronts during World War I. They fought over Persia and oil fields in the Middle East as well as over Suez Canal.

All of these conflicts resulted in a strong notion against Britain in Turkey, that opened space for the Lucknow Pact.
