This Executive Order granted the Secretary of War and his military commanders the right to designate military areas in order to protect "against espionage and against sabotage to national defense materials." The Secretary of War and his commanders could decide who could enter, remain in or were forced to leave these areas. For people who were forced to leave or were excluded from these areas, the Secretary of War and his commanders were required to provide transportation, food, shelter and any other required accommodations.
