Platón considera que el arte se encontraba en un tercer grado de distanciamiento de la verdad porque era simple imitación de las cosas y de las ideas trascendentales. Aristoteles por su parte, afirmaba que por medio del arte el hombre construía un mundo imaginario que era imitación de la naturaleza y del mundo real. Aparentemente los dos otorgaban al arte el mismo sentido peyorativo; sin embargo, Aristoteles rechaza esta afirmación y se aleja de Platón al mostrar que el arte es algo positivo y al : 1.afirmar que el arte es el medio para traducir el elemento universal e ideal de las cosas.
2.Sostener que la imitación y el deleite en las obras de arte es connatural al hombre.
3.rechazar la teoría de las ideas trascendentales y universales de Platón.
4.plantear que el arte trata de contemplar la obra de la naturaleza al crear elementos útiles.
