Read the quotation from Huey Long in which he speaks out against the New Deal. "You are giving a little man a biscuit to eat, and you put a barrel of flour more taxes on top of his head to carry." Based on Long’s quote, which would be the best rebuttal to his claim that the New Deal programs were not benefiting Americans? It is the duty of the government to feed its citizens, even if it needs to increase taxes to do so. The government should be responsible for giving citizens large quantities of food to eat. It should be the government’s duty to ensure that citizens are fed without increasing taxes. The government places too much burden on the poor and not enough burden on the wealthy.
