For the Parent, teach the parent about authoritative parenting style and teacher how to communicate her concerns with her son in a way that he understands. It is important that he feels cared about through warmth and some parental control. And for the son, a counselor would want to talk about goals for him over a short period of time such as other activities such as sports or after school programs and why he is disinterested in other activities. The counselor would want to reiterate the concerns of the parent and reassure them that the mother cares about his well-being.
