I believe that without reconstruction, we would not have the same nation that we do today. Although some may believe that is for the better, we are unsure of what we were to be run like without reconstruction periods. We were able to succeed greatly with the African American group. Though, like all things in life, it did come to an end, the resulting outcome has been labeled both a success and a failure. When Reconstruction began in 1865, a broken America had just finished fighting the Civil War. attempts were made to redress the inequities of slavery and its political, social, and economic legacy and to solve the problems arising from the readmission to the Union of the 11 states that had seceded.
