The right to a speedy trial and the prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment:

a. are guaranteed by the Bill of Rights but considered vital by the court system.
b. are included in the Bill of Rights, are self evident, and have not required much court interpretation.
c. are included in the Bill of Rights, but are rather vague and subject to the interpretation of the courts themselves.
d. were ruled unconstitutional in 1976 because they were so ill-defined as to be meaningless.
