Jordan is a golf player. Nick, the narrator of the novel, is becoming gradually more and more involved with Jordan. One day he remembers she lied about moving a ball from a bad lie in the semi-final round of a tournament. The catalyst for this memory is her now lying about leaving a borrowed car out in the rain with the top down.

What is Jordan's most "incurable" flaw?

According to Nick, Jordan is "incurably dishonest", which greatly contradicts his own character, in his opinion. Nick perceives himself as an honest man, capable of reserving himself from feelings of judgment toward others. Jordan, on the other hand, not only is rapid to judge, but also to lie, all to keep her lifestyle and image.
