COURSE PROJECT PART 3: DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PRACTICES IN MY PRESCHOOL GROUP
In this project, use what you have learned in this and other lessons to create and describe some DAP and activities in your imaginary preschool group.

In the Capstone Project at the end of the course, you will include these practices in your Day in the Life as a preschool teacher.

To begin, answer the four questions in the PDF article that appear on page 19,"Review of DAP Concepts." They are, as directly quoted:

What does the phrase "developmentally appropriate practices" (DAP) mean?
Why are developmentally appropriate practices better for children?
List ten things you would see in a developmentally appropriate classroom for young children.
List five things you would not see in a developmentally appropriate classroom.
This part can be open book, meaning you can refer to the article itself for ideas, but do not cut and paste or use identical wording in your answers.

Then write out a report explaining what DAP is about in your classroom. This w ill not be a complete daily schedule or list of activities, philosophy, or practices, but a sample that shows what you provide and why, and also how it is developmentally appropriate for three-, four-, and five-year-olds in the mixed age group.

Include the following:

general DAP equipment, set up, and practices such as you listed in #3 above
an example of how three-year-olds participate and what teacher assistance is given to help them
an example of how four-year-olds participate and what teacher assistance is given to help them
an example of how five-year-olds participate and what teacher assistance is given to help them
family-style meal procedures and participation, with two behavior examples and what you do
an active outdoor play activity and how three- to five-year-olds participate
a morning greeting activity, like a circle song/movements, and how three- to five-year-olds participate
one example of a discovery activity and what/how three- to five-year-olds discover something new
Be creative and make the children's experiences as real and developmentally accurate as you can. You can include parent participation, questions, reactions, or other teacher involvement, as you like.
