PROJECT: TWO CHILDREN
Imagine two children from interdependent cultures. Both are dual language learners, from homes where English is not spoken. Both children live in large low-income households. Both families want high-quality education for their children. Only one of the children is able to go to a preschool where that education is available.

Tell their stories in two separate profiles. You can decide the gender and features of the children, specific age, numbers of siblings, both parents or just one in the home, farm or non-farm home, likes and dislikes (i. e. loves to draw, to sing, nature), and so on. You can make them very similar in these features, or not.

Write the story of their preschool experience. Where do they go? What is it like? Who else is there? What are the teachers like? What do they do at school? How do they like it or dislike it? Is it supportive, confusing, overwhelming, fun, scary?

Then write an update on them in the future. You can choose to report on them as adults, as high school graduates or dropouts, as 8th graders, as young as 4th graders. Create a portrait of what their lives are like, what they are doing, where they live.

These two reports should each be:

two pages (or more) double-spaced
titled with the name of the child
written in first person (i. e. I am three years old) or third person (Anna is three years old) consistently
include a paragraph of personal description
paragraph of household family description
paragraph on preschool description
paragraph of preschool activities addressing diversity (or not)
paragraph of the child's view and feelings about preschool
paragraph of future portrait of the child
Be creative! Tell a real story of a real child. You may illustrate it or choose photographs that demonstrate your story to include, but there must still be two pages of written work.
