COURSE PROJECT PART 1: OPENING A LICENSED CHILD CARE FACILITY IN YOUR STATE
Course Project:

A DAY IN THE LIFE is the title of the capstone project. It is a day in your life, as you imagine it to be, as a preschool teacher in charge of the group, the planning of activities, relationships with parents, administrators, and staff. And this day in the life is not just any day. This might be the hardest day or the most exhausting day you can imagine having, because you are going to face every challenge you have studied, keep the classroom energized and at play, help individual children where needed, advise your assistant, have a dual language lesson, make a home visit, and deal with some parent partnership issues and an administrative staff meeting, and even be a keynote speaker at an advocacy meeting in the evening, after your after-school meetings. You will do it all, get home late, and write up a report on all that happened.

Course Project, Part 1: Report

Ready to create your report? You have learned and collected a great deal of information and relevant data for your state report and thought about answers to salient questions while developing your report and recommendations; now you will create a report on the state of preschool programs in your state and how these programs compare to others. You can choose how the report is designed. Make it informative, well designed, easy to view the statistics, and complete.

Your report must be at least 1500 words, double-spaced, and include the following in this order:

title page
introduction (i. e. what is a state-funded pre-k program, when your state started providing them, general state of preschool 2011)
how your state ranks, with info (including graphs & charts, which can be from the NIEER yearbook) on the bullet points:
policy on access (for example, Florida's law to provide VPK)
quality standards
resources (funding)
program descriptions
unique features
recent changes
changes affecting future
with or without state-funded program? Eleven states have none.
enrollment vs. funding trends over ten years
staff ratios
staff education standards
meal program
site visits
meeting benchmark levels?
summary (how your state compares to all states, and whether it is improving or declining with current policy)
recommendations (what you recommend your state do to improve, as detailed in the lesson)
citations of reference sources used
