The American settlers, well at least some of them, seemed to search for any reason as to why the Native Americans could be perceived as a threat. The "Indian Ghost Dance" was a religious movement that the Indians use to spread hope, even though their situation was dismal. The U.S. Army misinterpreted this dance as a WAR DANCE, an assumption which led to the battles of "Wounded Knee" and the "Massacre of Sioux".
