Mr. bauer receives a new student named hiep from vietnam about halfway through the school year. hiep does not speak any english. mr. bauer asks bao, one of his advanced ell students who speaks vietnamese, to be hiep’s buddy and to explain to hiep about the classroom routines and to him at lunch and recess. mr. bauer even changes the seating assignments so that hiep can sit next to bao and provide explanations and assistance in vietnamese as needed.
