Israel is a parliamentarian democracy, its members are elected under a system of proportional representation. After each legislative election, the leader of the winning party, faction or coalition is asked by the president to form a new cabinet. The leader of the majority becomes the prime minister. He chooses his cabinet members and the Knesset must give a vote of confidence to the cabinet; otherwise, the prime minister can´t rule.
