In 1779, american colonists attacked the city of savannah in an attempt to regain control of the city. why did the colonists attack the city? the colonists had promised to return land surrounding the city to their american indian allies. capturing the city would force the british to retreat south, where they would face the spanish military controlling the major port city would prevent great britain from receiving supplies it needed for its military the city was the last british stronghold in the colonies, and its capture would end the american revolution i do not know the answer at this time.
