Limitations of Hammurabi’s code as evidence of life in babylonia:

Although Hammurabi's code was a major reflection of the Babylonian culture, there were many drawbacks to the same. For one, it stated different punishments of varying severity according to the caste and gender of the individual who committed the offence. If a thief who had nothing to pay as a penalty for his crime would be put to death while the punishment for the same crime would be of lesser severity to a person who belongs to a higher caste.

It also reflects the patriarchy that existed in the society. A man could sell his wife and children away to another man to absolve his debt. Although this code provided protection to women against the patriarchal conduct, it does so by referring to them as nothing but slaves. These distinctions in the society were a major setback of the code.
