Lia’s medicine regime was problematic because of the large quantity of medications had to be taken on a specific schedule. There was a frequent change in her medicine regimen in order to manage her symptoms most effectively. This challenge was made more complex as Lia’s parents were illiterate in English and Hmong and also lacked the basic understanding of medicine. Lia’s mother was mostly confused or lied about the medicines she gave to Lia. Lia’s parents’ faced difficulty  in maintaining  the rigorous medication schedule for managing Lia's frequent seizures put Lia's life at risk.
