William Marcy Tweed was a democratic American politician and a member of the House and Senate.

After being elected to Congressional office, he managed to have those loyal to him, or his “Tweed Cronies” appointed to top offices and were able to access the city treasury. Tweed was the director of bank, gas, hotel, railroad, print, and landmark companies during his height. Tweed was accused of stealing an estimated $30-$100 million from the city of New York through political corruption. He was tried for forgery and larceny and jailed.

the reason the welfare system causes so much of a burden on its recipients is because the welfare system does not give its recipients any real tools to actually get out of poverty. the welfare system has embedded poverty deeper into society and has made it harder and harder for people to escape poverty.

in other words, it stoped the poor, and now its making it worse.
