The FEC (Federal Election Commission) is responsible for regulating contributions to political campaigns on the federal level.  Congress is responsible for enacting the campaign finance laws, but the FEC is the one to enforce the law.

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is an independent federal agency that is responsible for regulating contributions to political campaigns (option A). This independent agency controls the finance information about the political campaigns in the US.  It is made up of six members whose job is to set limitations and prohibitions on funding programs, investigate violations and administer the reporting system for campaign finance. It is important to state that private financing is allowed in most campaigns. However, public financing which fulfills certain requirements may contribute to the presidential election.
