When you stand at rest on a bathroom scale, how does your weight compare with the support force by the scale?

Well, if you're standing at rest, then we know that the vertical forces
acting on the bottom of your feet must add up to zero.  If they didn't
then your feet would be accelerating, either up or down. 

So the support (normal) force of the scale, acting upward, must be
exactly equal to your weight.
