Two ice boats (one of mass m, one of mass 2m) hold a race on a frictionless, horizontal, frozen lake. Bath iceboats start at rest, and the wind exerts the same constant force on both iceboats. A. The iceboat of mass m: it has twice as much KE as the other.
B. The iceboat of mass m: it has 4 times as much KE as the other.
C. The iceboat of mass 2m: it has twice as much KE as the other.
D. The iceboat of mass 2m: it has 4 times as much KE as the other.
E. They both cross the finish line with the same kinetic energy.
WHY E??1/2mv^2 = 1/2mv^21/2 (2m) v^2 = mv^2 ? so the with 2m has more KE ?? why not?

Beryl states that insulation with the smallest possible thermal conductivity is best to keep a house warm in winter, but worst for keeping a house cool in summer. sapphire insists the reverse is true: low thermal conductivity is good in the summer, but bad in the winter. which one, if either is correct? a. beryl, because low thermal conductivity results in low heat transfer. b. beryl, because low thermal conductivity results in high heat transfer. d. sapphire, because low thermal conductivity results in high heat transfer. e. neither, because low heat transfer is desirable both in summer and in winter.

Uranium has two naturally occurring isotopes. 238u has a natural abundance of 99.3% and 235u has an abundance of 0.7%. it is the rarer 235u that is needed for nuclear reactors. the isotopes are separated by forming uranium hexafluoride uf6, which is a gas, then allowing it to diffuse through a series of porous membranes. 235uf6 has a slightly larger rms speed than 238uf6 and diffuses slightly faster. many repetitions of this procedure gradually separate the two isotopes. what is the ratio of the rms speed of 235uf6 to that of 238uf6? express your answer to five significant figures.
