Electromagnetism consists of two phenomena: magnetism and electricity. Magnetism has been known about since before written history. However, it was merely a curiosity until about the year 1000 when electrical experiments were first conducted by a number of researchers in and around Baghdad that showed that lightning is a form of electricity. These experiments culminated in Maxwell’s mathematical representation. The atom’s strong and weak nuclear forces were discovered at the same time when we were first able to peer into a nucleus. The strong nuclear, weak nuclear, and electromagnetic forces are all mathematically described by the standard model.
