Two spools of equal mass, A and B, are pulled from rest up identical ramps by inextensible threads with the same tension. The thread is wrapped around spool Amany times, but it is attached to a fixed point on spool B, so that spool B will not rotate. There is no friction between the objects and the ramps. Both spools are pulled from the bottom of the ramp to the same point at the top of the ramp. Required:
a. Will spool A reach the top of the ramp before, after, or at the same instant as spool B? If you do not have enough information, state so explicitly. Explain your reasoning.
b. Is the magnitude of the change in total energy of spool A greater than, less than, or equal to the magnitude of the change in total energy of spool B? If you do not have enough information, state so explicitly. Explain your reasoning.
