In the figure below, a 20 kg child stands on the edge of a stationary merry-go-round of radius 3.0 m. The rotational inertia of the merry-go-round about its rotation axis is 150 kg · m2. The child catches a ball of mass 1.4 kg thrown by a friend. Just before the ball is caught, it has a horizontal velocity v (with arrow) of magnitude 14 m/s, at angle = 37° with a line tangent to the outer edge of the merry-go-round, as shown. What is the angular speed of the merry-go-round just after the ball is caught? The answer is 0.137 rad/s but I can't figure out how to solve this.

Ametal ring 4.20 cm in diameter is placed between the north and south poles of large magnets with the plane of its area perpendicular to the magnetic field. these magnets produce an initial uniform field of 1.12 t between them but are gradually pulled apart, causing this field to remain uniform but decrease steadily at 0.240 t/s . (a) what is the magnitude of the electric field induced in the ring? (b) in which direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) does the current flow as viewed by someone on the south pole of the magnet?
