Suppose you install a compass on the center of a car's dashboard.
(a) Assuming the dashboard is made mostly of plastic, compute an order-of-magnitude estimate for the magnetic field at this location produced by the current when you switch on the car's headlights. (Suppose you have two 104-W headlights running in series from a 12-V battery with all the current going through the switch 62 cm from the compass. Model the current as being from a long straight wire.)

(b) How does this estimate compare with the Earth's magnetic field?

Since the investigative question has two variables, you need to focus on each one separately. thinking only about the first part of the question, mass, what might be a hypothesis that would illustrate the relationship between mass and kinetic energy? use the format of "if…then…because…” when writing your hypothesis.

Select light for the type of wave, adjust the wavelength so that the light is red, and increase the amplitude of the light to the max. then, select the start button at the source location to begin producing the waves. light is a form of electromagnetic wave, containing oscillating electric and magnetic fields. the wave amplitude detector mentioned above shows how the electric field oscillates in time at the location of the probe. the amplitude of the wave at the location of the probe is equal to the maximum electric field measured. how does the amplitude of the wave depend on the distance from the source?
