Pls help, i literally have 0 understanding of this and need the work written out too Problems:

1. Compare the gravitational attraction between two electrons separated by 1 mm in a vacuum, and compare that with the electrical repulsion they experience.

me = 9.11 x 10–31 kg, qe = –1.60 x 10–19 C, G = 6.67 x 10–11 N m2 / kg2, k = 8.99 x 109 N m2 / C2

FG = G me me / d2 = (6.67 x 10–11 N m2 / kg2) (9.11 x 10–31 kg) (9.11 x 10–31 kg) / (0.001 m)2 FG = 5.54 x 10–65 N

FE = k qe qe / d2 = (8.99 x 109 N m2 / C2) (–1.60 x 10–19 C) (–1.60 x 10–19 C) / (0.001m)2 FE = 2.3 x 10–22 N

FE / FG = 2.3 x 10–22 N / 5.54 x 10–65 N = 4.2 x 1042 >>>> 1

2. Two very small identical conducting spheres carrying charges of + 40 nC and – 80 nC are 1 cm apart, center to center, in a vacuum.

(a) Determine the force each experiences.

(b) They are then brought into contact and subsequently again separated to 1 cm. Determine the force each sphere now experiences.

(a)

q1 = + 40 nC, q2 = –80 nC, d = 0.01 m, FE = ?

FE = k q1 q2 / d2 = (8.99 x 109 N m2 / C2) (+ 40 x 10–9 C) (–80 x 10–9 C) / (0.01 m)2 = – 0.288 N = FE

(b) Spheres are brought into contact and split the charge between them.

q1 = –20 nC, q2 = –20 nC, d = 0.01 m, FE = ?

½ (+ 40 nC – 80 nC) = –20 nC = charge split between the two spheres

FE = k q1 q2 / d2 = (8.99 x 109 N m2 / C2) (–20 x 10–9 C) (–20 x 10–9 C) / (0.01 m)2 = + 0.036 N = FE

3. A region of space is permeated by an electric field. When a tiny gold sphere carrying a charge of + 50 μC is placed at a particular point in that field, it experiences an electrostatic force of 100 μN due South. What is the electric field vector at the location of the sphere?

q = + 50 μC, FE = 100 μN (S), E = ?

E = FE / q = 100 x 10–6 N / 50 x 10–6 C = 2 N / C (South) = E

4. A uniform electric field can be produced by charging two parallel plates. Suppose such a uniform electric field of 30 N/C (due North) is overlapped with a uniform electric field of 40 N/C (due East). What is the net electric field in the region of overlap?

given: E1 = 30 N/C (North), E2 = 40 N/C (East), Enet = ?

Enet (magnitude) = √(30 N/C)2 + (40 N/C)2 = 50 N/C = Enet (magnitude)

Enet = 50 N/C (36.9o) E1 = 30 N/C (N)

Enet (direction) = tan θ = opp / adj = 30 N/C / 40 N/C = 0.75 = tan θ θ

θ = tan–1 (0.75) = 36.9o final Enet = 50 N/C at 36.9o E2 = 40 N/C (E)

5. What are the units for capacitance (F) in terms of charge (C), time (s), mass (kg), and length (m)?

F = C / V = C / 1 / J / C = (C / 1) (C / J) = C2 / J = C2 / N m = C2 / (kg m / s2) (m) = C2 / (kg m2 / s2) = C2 s2 / kg m2 = F
