In two scenarios, a hollow sphere is rolled across a surface and then up an identical incline. In both scenarios the ground is not frictionless, however, for Scenario 1 the coefficient of friction is smaller than the coefficient of friction in Scenario 2. For each scenario, the same force is applied to the sphere to initiate the rolling motion and in both scenarios the sphere comes to a complete stop before reaching the top of the ramp. A student makes the following claim about the height reached by the sphere in both scenarios. “The sphere in Scenario 1 will reach a greater height on the ramp than the sphere in Scenario 2. This is because Scenario 2 will have a greater amount of energy transferred to thermal energy in the process of rolling along the floor.”
a)With which aspects of the student’s claim do you agree? Explain your reasoning.
b)With which aspects of the student’s claim do you disagree? Explain your reasoning.

The hollow sphere with a radius of 0.25 m is now rolled down the same incline. The incline is 2m high, the moment of inertia for the sphere is 3.5 kgm^2.The sphere has a linear velocity of 3 m/s at the bottom of the incline.
C Calculate the mass of the hollow sphere.
