A 6.4 kg block (m1) is placed on a 30 degree inclined plane. The block is connected to a mass (m2) by a string that passes over a frictionless pulley at the top of the incline. Mass m2 hangs vertically from the string. The coefficients of friction for the block and the plane are: ms = 0.4 and mk = 0.3.
If m2 has 1.2 kg and the system is released from rest, what is the acceleration?
a. Draw a free body diagram for each mass.
b. Determine the horizontal (mgx) and vertical (mgy) components of the block m1’s weight.
