Electromagnetic waves are transverse waves that carry both dlectrical and magnetic energy. Electrormagnetic waves are produced by the vibration of charged particles. These waves are capable of transmitting its energy through a vacuum.
Electromagnetic waves that are produced on the sun travel to Earth through the vacuum of outer space.
Electromagnetic waves travel at the same speed, approximately 300,000,000 m/s. These waves exist with an enormous
range of frequencies. In fact, each type of electromagnetic wave is identified by its characteristic frequency and
wavelength. The frequency and wavelength of electromagnetic waves are related to the speed of light according to the
following formula
frequency X wavelength
speed of light
The range of the spectrum is often brokenn into specific regions. Subdividing of the entire spectrum into smaller spectra
is done mostly on the basis of how each region of electromagnetic waves interacts with matter. The diagram depicts the
electromaanetĂc spectrum, its varĂous reaion5, and the relationship between wavelength and frequency
