Odnawialne Źródła Energii, to krótko mówiąc, wszystkie te, które się nie kończą. Czyli energia pochodząca z wiatru, ruchu wody i światła słonecznego. Oczywiście krytykanci mogą powołać się na argument, że przykładowo nasza najbliższa gwiazda zgaśnie za sześć miliardów lat, ale biorąc pod uwagę skalę nieco bardziej wyobrażalnego dla nas czasu, czyli następnych tysięcy lat, możemy łatwo sobie wyobrazić, jak bardzo użytkowanie paliw kopalnych może zniszczyć Ziemię, a korzystanie z OZE już nie.

Wynalazki, które były nowoczesne sto lat temu dziś powinny odejść do lamusa. Tradycyjne silniki spalinowe, czy tradycyjne elektrownie węglowe były dobre, gdy postęp technologiczny na naszej planecie dopiero wkraczał na pełne obroty. Dziś już, tego typu rozwiązania kompletnie się skompromitowały i zdezaktualizowały. Tymczasem, niestety, udział OZE w rynku energetycznym ciągle jest bardzo symboliczny. W naszym kraju rządzą tradycyjne elektrownie węglowe i tradycyjne sposoby napędzania pojazdów. Ciągle jeszcze, poza ogólnymi wyobrażeniami społeczeństwa leżą nowoczesne, proekologiczne rozwiązania. A gdy przejeżdża się przez mniejsze miejscowości, lepiej zamknąć obwody w samochodzie, bo naprawdę można się udusić od smogu. Ten stan rzeczy zmienia się na lepsze, gdyż zgodnie z Dyrektywą 2009/28/WE państwa UE zobowiązane są zwiększać udział energii ze źródeł odnawialnych w całkowitym zużyciu energii1.
