A package weighing 2000 N is placed on a ramp and attached to a cable that runs over a massless, frictionless pulley, and a force F is applied to the cable as shown in the Figure below. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block
and ramp is hk = 0.2, and the coefficient of static friction between the block and the ramp is js = 0.5. The ramp is
inclined at an angle of 42° with respect to the horizontal.
(a) Determine the minimum force F needed to prevent the block from sliding down the ramp.
(b) The cable suddenly snaps. What is the acceleration of the block?
