Let's learn about matter.

We see different kinds of things around us. Some of these are wood , book , salt , beaker , sugar , water , milk , oil, rubber and water vapour. All these things occupy space and have mass as they are matter. Anything that occupies space and has weight is called matter.

States of Matter

Solid , liquid and gas are the three states of matter.

Different things have different sizes and shapes but a particular thing has a fixed shape and size. The things which have definite size and definite shape are solids. Stone , word , ice , glass etc are some examples of solid.

The things having a definite volume but no definite shape of their own are called liquids. Water ,milk , petroleum , oil etc are as common examples of liquid.

The things which have neither a definite volume not a definite shape of their own are called gases. The bases take the shape and the size of the vessels in which they are enclosed. Air , smoke , water vapours , hydrogen gas are some examples of gases.
