Travis sets up and experiment to determine and predict the velocity of a marble at the end of a track. He uses an electronic balance to weigh the marble and a set of calipers to measure the width of the marble. He then places the marble at the top of the track and releases it. Travis then uses the time it takes the marble to pass through a photogate at the bottom of the track to calculate the velocity of the marble. Travis notes that his prediction is significantly lower than his calculated velocity. Which error explains this difference?
A) He forgot to account for friction.
B) He forgot to zero the balance and found a weight for the marble that was too low.
C) He weighed the marble in a weighing dish and failed to account for the mass of the weighing dish.
D) He didn't position the photogate correctly and got the time required for the top of the marble to pass through, rather than to the middle.

Dinate system, and a charge q = - 2.00 nc is placed s2 10 n> c. (a) what is the change in electric potential energy when the dipole moment of a molecule changes its orientation with respect to es from parallel to perpendicular? (b) at what absolute temperature t is the average translational kinetic energy 32 kt of a molecule equal to the change in potential energy calculated in part(: abovethistemperature, thermalagitationprevents the dipoles from aligning with the electric field.) placed in a uniform electric field e with magnitude 1.6 * 6 on the positive x-axis at x = 4.00 cm. (a) if a third charge q3 = +6.00 nc is now placed at the point x = 4.00 cm, y = 3.00 cm, find the x- and y-components of the total force exerted on this charge by the other two. (b) find the magnitude and direction of figure p21.62 ll uu 21.55 . torque on a dipole. an electric dipole with dipole moment ps is in a uniform external electric field es. (a) find the orientations of the dipole for which the torque on the dipole is zero. (b) which of the orientations in part (a) is stable, and which is unstable? (hint: consider a small rotation away from the equi- librium position and see what happens.) (c) show that for the stable orientation in part (b), the dipole’s own electric field tends to oppose the external field. 21.62 ..

You are the coordinator for a program that is going to take place at night in a rectangular amphitheater in the mountains. you will have no access to any electricity, but you must be able to illuminate the entire grounds. you know the intensity of the light from a lantern varies inversely as the square of the distance from the lantern. suppose the intensity is 90 when the distance is 5 m. a. write an equation to model the situation. b. solve for the constant of variation. c. write the equation to model the situation using the constant () of variation. d. you have been given lanterns with 40 light intensity. use your equation to solve for the distance from the lantern. e. you need to illuminate 225 km. how many meters do you need to light? f. how many lanterns will you need?
