A diesel engine has an air temperature and pressure at the beginning of the compression stroke of 290K and 220 kPa, respectively (State 1). At the end of the heat addition process the temperature and pressure are 1550K and 7200 kPa, respectively. Compute the following: (a) the temperature at the end of the compression process, (b) the volumetric compression ratio, (c) the temperature at the end of the expansion process, (d) the cycle thermal efficiency, and (e) the mean effective pressure. Assume air to be an ideal gas with Cp, o=1.004 kJ/(kg K) and Cv, o=0.717 kJ/(kg K).
