TASK SHEET
Mechanical energy
1. Find out what mechanical energy transformations take place as the ball moves in the sloping planes.
1.1. Install two equal sloping planes: take two boards of equal length and raise their ends to the same height. You can use the cots in the physics office or the long rulers. Place the sloping planes facing each other as shown in the figure.

1.2. Weigh the ball and record its mass.

1.3. Measure the height of the sloping plane with a ruler and record the measurement result.

1.4. How much and what mechanical energy does a ball placed at the top of a sloping plane have?

1.5. Let the ball roll on the sloping plane. In the second plane, mark the point to which the ball rose. What mechanical energy does the ball have at this point? Measure the maximum lift height of the ball and calculate its energy.

1.6. Compare the mechanical energy calculated in 1.4 and 1.5 and draw a conclusion.

1.7. What mechanical energy transformations took place as the ball rolled?

2. Which vessel will roll faster?
2.1. Install two identical sloping planes: take two boards of equal length (up to 50 cm) and raise their ends to the same height of 10 cm. Place them next to each other. Take two equal half-liter jars with screw caps. Fill one jar to the top with sugar (  1.6 g / cm3) and the other to half the water (  1.0 g / cm3).

2.2. Which vessel has a higher potential energy at the top of the inclined plane? Justify your answer.

2.3. At the same time, let the jars roll on a sloping plane. Which vessel rolled faster?

2.4. Repeat the experiment several times. Notice how the sugar and water move in the jars. Explain why the dishes rolled at different speeds?

Agas initially at p1 = 1 bar and occupying a volume of 0.5 liter is compressed within a piston–cylinder assembly to a final pressure p2 = 4 bar. (a) if the relationship between pressure and volume during the compression is pv = constant, determine the volume, in liters, at a pressure of 3 bar. (b) repeat for a linear pressure–volume relationship between the same end states. reference
