A uniform mass of rod 300g and length 5.00cm rotates in horizontal plane about a fixed, frictionless, vertical pin through its center. Two small, dense beads, each of mass m, are mounted on the rod so that they can slide without friction along its length. Initially the beads are held by catches at positions 10 cm on each side of center, and the system is rotating at an angular speed of 30.0 rad/s. The catches are released simultaneously, and the small beads slide outward along the rod.

A) Find an expression for the angular speed wf of the system at the instant the beads slide of the ends of hte rod as it depends on m.
B) What are the maximum and minimum possible values for wf and the values of m to which they correspond?

The nuclear potential that binds protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom is often approximated by a square well. imagine a proton conned in an innite square well of length 105 nm, a typical nuclear diameter. calculate the wavelength and energy associated with the photon that is emitted when the proton undergoes a transition from the rst excited state (n 2) to the ground state (n 1). in what region of the electromagnetic spectrum does this wavelength belong?
