Simone and Michael are studying the habits of animals. Michael predicted that earthworms would crawl away from light because they normally lived in the ground or under rocks. They set up the box you see here. Simone was concerned about their experiment. She said it was not a fair test because the light was also transformed into heat energy and that would influence how the earthworms would behave.
How can this design be changed so they can still test the prediction but so that Simone will not be concerned about the experiment? Three solutions would work. Which solution and explanation would not test the prediction?

A) Because the black paper absorbs the heat from the lamp, shade one side with a reflective substance like tin foil.

B) Because the black paper absorbs the heat from the lamp, remove the black paper from the right side of the earthworm box.
C) Do not use a light. That will reduce the heat energy going into the box. Put the box outside. Leave one side open and shade the other side.

D) Put the box outside in a sunny location. Cover the right side with a light colored cloth or piece of paper. It will shade the inside of the box, but not absorb too much heat.
