The Statue of Liberty stands 93 meters tall in New York Harbor. It is made of the metal copper. Copper is a ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. Pure copper is soft and malleable; a freshly exposed surface has a reddish-orange color. It is used as a conductor of heat and electricity and as a building material, as we see here. When copper is exposed to air or seawater over a period of time it reacts to form this blue-green color called verdigris. Copper has a density of 8.96 g·cm3. It will melt at 1084.62oC.
Consider the paragraph above. What is one chemical property of copper?
A) Copper reacts with air and sea water.
B) Copper will melt at 1084.62oC.
C) The freshly exposed surface has a reddish-orange color.
D) Copper is used as a conductor of heat and electricity.
