The starship Enterprise and the Millennium Falcon are both stationary, docked in space so that the crews can exchange cookies. They later depart at the same time with Han Solo directing the Millennium Flacon at a speed of 300 m/s at an angle 45 degrees to the initial direction of Captain Kirk in the Enterprise which moves off at 400 m/s. At the instant the two vessels separate Captain Kirk realizes he left his favorite tea-cozy on the Millennium Falcon and directs Lieutenant Sulu to alter course to intercept Han Solo. What acceleration must the Enterprise undergo for its path to intersect the path of the Millennium Falcon in 40 seconds?

The scalar triple product computes the magnitude m of the moment of a force vector f about a specified line. it is m = (r × f) · n, where r is the position vector from the line to the point of application of the force and n is a unit vector in the direction of the line. use matlab to compute the magnitude m for the case where f = [12, −5, 4] n, r = [−3, 5, 2] m, and n = [6, 5, −7].

It may seem strange that the selected velocity does not depend on either the mass or the charge of the particle. (for example, would the velocity of a neutral particle be selected by passage through this device? ) the explanation of this is that the mass and the charge control the resolution of the device--particles with the wrong velocity will be accelerated away from the straight line and will not pass through the exit slit. if the acceleration depends strongly on the velocity, then particles with just slightly wrong velocities will feel a substantial transverse acceleration and will not exit the selector. because the acc
