The electromagnetic spectrum is a range of frequencies spanning a very wide range. Scientists talk about frequencies from about 3 cycles per second to those at least to 10^25 cycles per second. The name for cycles per second is known at Hertz abbreviated to Hz.

Within this spectrum or range exist some of the frequencies we are talk about such as X-Rays, visible light, and wireless transmission including radio waves. However, the range goes beyond what is commonly used at this time both above and below the range.

One example of a portion of electromagnetic spectrum that is very important is the range that is visible to the human eye. This part of the spectrum, with wavelengths in the micrometer range through a few hundred nanometer wavelength range, is known as visible light. The ability to see and use the sense of eye-sight is dependent on this portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Another example of the electromagnetic spectrum that is well known has to do with radio waves. This part if from about 3 MHz up to about 300 GHz. Within this portion of the electromagnetic spectrum are radio and television transmissions and receptions. Also wireless phones, wireless Internet, and satellite transmission and reception are included in this portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.
