consider two less than desirable options in the first you are driving 30 miles per hour and crash head-on into a sand pile in the second option you are driving 30 miles per hour and crash head-on into a stationary brick wall in neither case does your car bounce back after the collision and the collision time is the same in both cases. both of these collisions will have the same change in momentum yet the impact force felt when hitting the sand pile be much less than hitting the brick wall. why?
