Nuclear fusion is a process where nuclei of lighter elements are fused together to make a heavier element. In this process a huge amount of energy, nuclear energy, is released. The Sun also gets it energy from the same process. In its core, where temperature is around 15 million kelvin, hydrogen nuclei fuse together to make helium.

This process is proposed to be used to generate power on Earth as well. But till now no efficient system has been developed. As fusion can only start under certain condition. Inside the core such conditions occur naturally.
