     3x^2 + 9x + 6

Factoring is one way to write our polynomial in an equivalent form. Notice that 3 is a GCF for all the terms. If we divide 3 out of each term of our expression, we can also write our polynomial as 
     3( x^2 + 3x + 2)

Now, we need two numbers whose sum is 3 and whose product is 2. In this case, it would have to be 1 and 2. Therefore we can also write our polynomial in the factored form:
     3(x + 2)(x + 1)
