You are a contractor responsible for installing hardwood flooring. You have 1,200 square feet of bamboo flooring leftover from a previous job that you would like to use since your previous customer already paid for it.
By using it, you will lower your expenses and, thereby, make more of a profit.
Scenario
In the current house you're building, you plan to install the bamboo flooring in the common room and in the
kitchen. The dimensions of the kitchen are going to be 20'x 30'. However, you don't know exactly the
dimensions of the common room because of certain constraints. One constraint is the width of the common
room needs an additional 2 feet to accommodate wiring and piping. The other constraint is the length of the
common room, as required by the customer, needs to be at least twice the width. In addition, 4 feet will need
to be added to the length to accommodate ductwork.
Challenge
Determine the dimension of the common room that will utilize all of the remaining bamboo flooring. You MUST
(1) show your work, (2) specify the correct units, and (3) round your answer to the nearest whole foot.
