MATH 6552: Week 4 Application Assignment Track and Field Problem In the back of the CRC, there is a sports area with a track and field. The area has been selected as the location to hold a citywide track meet. In preparation for this event, the manager of the CRC wants to install new fencing around the track. The track is an equal quadrant track, which means that it is 400 meters around with 100m along each curve and 100 meters along each straightaway. This layout will accommodate a field approximately 150 feet by 320 feet inside the track. 100 meters 1 1. Estimate the perimeter of the track in feet. 2. A rectangular fence will be placed around track. The fence needs to be positioned at least 10 feet away from the edge of track. Field Events The field in the middle of the track will be used for four events; the long jump, shot put, discus throws, and the high jump. As part of the agreement to host the track meet, the CRC manager must submit a drawing that details where each of the field events will be located in the area of the field, Consider the information below.
